Haptic Touch in action on the iPhone

Haptic feedback is what you get when you press your finger down on your iPhone screen and feel a brief vibration.

Apple refers to their version of the technology as the Haptic Touch. With a long press on your screen, you can do a lot of things. This contains fast actions, such as choices that allow you to share, remove, or view more. It’s also the secret to removing specific apps and turning live photos into videos.

I frequently use it to fast adjust the flashlight’s strength on my phone and to utilise my keyboard as a touchpad.

You can change the brightness of your iPhone’s torch or quickly view an action menu for the Outlook app (left) using Haptic Touch.

Similar to PC keyboard shortcuts, it’s a helpful tool for swiftly and effectively navigating iOS, but if you find Haptic Touch a bit too sluggish, you’re not alone.

Some individuals, myself included, believe that Haptic Touch reacts too slowly. 3D Touch, Apple’s prior haptic technology for the iPhone, was more powerful than Haptic Touch since it operated on pressure sensitivity rather than time.

With the debut of the iPhone XR in 2018, Apple switched from 3D Touch to Haptic Touch.

For better or worse, we are stuck with Haptic Touch at this point. However, there is a simpler solution to speed up Haptic Touch and make it more like 3D Touch. The setting to make the adjustment is located here.

How to speed up your iPhone’s haptic touch

Navigate to Accessibility > Touch > Haptic Touch in the Settings app. Three settings for touch duration are available to you:

Quick Default Slow
Note: Only iOS 17 supports this function.

You may experiment with the speed beneath the different touch duration settings. Simply long-press the image of the orange blossom with the blue sky backdrop after tapping your selected settings.

Just close the Settings app once you’ve made up your mind.

Since I want the haptic feedback to seem virtually instantaneous, I obviously went with the quickest option, but I advise you to experiment with all three parameters to see which works best for you. Try all three before choosing one; you may even prefer a slower response to Haptic Touch.
