In December, Apple released iOS 18.3, which included bug patches for your iPhone. Voice Isolation, however, is a function that Apple included to iOS 16.4 in 2025 that greatly enhances the sound quality of your calls.

Only Voice Isolation is now accessible for standard phone conversations, even though Apple had previously implemented Wide Spectrum and Voice Isolation to FaceTime calls with iOS 15.

Voice Isolation muffles annoying background noises that interfere with your phone conversation when it is turned on. This way, you won’t be distracted by your dog barking or construction outside your house while you’re on a business call or meeting up with friends.

Voice Isolation isn’t found in Settings, therefore you have to be on a call in order to activate it. Until you actively disable it, Voice Isolation will be enabled for all upcoming calls.

How Voice Isolation is Enabled

During a phone call, the Control Center’s highlighted phone controls
1. Tap the app on your phone.
2. To access your Control Center during a phone conversation, swipe down from the top-right corner of your screen.
3. In the vicinity of the top of your screen, tap Phone Controls.
Fourth, select Voice Isolation.

Use the same procedures as before and choose Standard under Phone Controls to turn off Voice Isolation. Your microphone will revert to its original setting as a result.

Wide Spectrum: What Is It?

The setting is underlined and Voice Isolation is turned on.
In Phone Controls, Wide Spectrum is located next to Voice Isolation. Wide Spectrum enhances surrounding noises without altering your voice, in contrast to Voice Isolation, which muffles background sounds.

When there are several persons on a single phone line, Wide Spectrum is helpful. In this manner, not just the person on the phone but everyone may be heard.

Wide Spectrum can only be used for FaceTime calls at this time. The function may eventually be made available for phone calls, as it is still present in Phone Controls.
